“Akoma Ntoaso”.

Realtor Monique Anderson Walker commissioned me to create an original art work for Singer/Philanthropist Michael Jackson to commemorate his April, 2004 visit to Washington, DC, where he was honored by African Ambassadors and their spouses for raising money and awareness of the global devastation caused by HIV/AIDS. The Art work was presented to Mr. Jackson by Mr. and Mrs. Dell Walters and their two daughters at their home on April 5, 2004.

Akoma Ntoaso, which literally means joined or united hearts, is an Adinkra symbol and represents agreement, unity, and understanding. Adinkra is a cotton cloth produced in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire which has traditional Akan symbols stamped upon it. The Adinkra symbols represent popular proverbs and maxims, record historical events, express particular attitudes or behavior related to depicted figures, or concepts uniquely related to abstract shapes.
